MOVIE POSTER COLLECTORS AUTHENTICATION

STAR WARS STYLE C ONE SHEET MOVIE POSTER

The action-oriented Star Wars C poster was printed primarily for use in international markets and military bases.  According to reports, most of the original print run was destroyed and only approximately 1000 posters were distributed.  A limited number of these - perhaps 100 - include a PG box.  Since they are relatively rare, original Style C posters - particularly the “PG Box” version - tend to be significantly more expensive than other Star Wars original posters.

Unfortunately, many “bootleg” copies of the Style C poster were printed - perhaps using the original printing plates - and are commonly sold as originals.  Fortunately, the most common bootleg is readily distinguishable from the original non-PG box version. (There are no known bootlegs of the PG box version.)  Although both are 27x41, there are several major differences.

First, the gas cloud surrounding the laser fire is much more prominent and dense on the original than on the bootleg.

Second, two “hair” lines on Leia’s sleeve and R2-D2’s foot are on the bootleg but not on the original.
